I like to keep up with the progress in other medical fields beside my own, and the things researchers are doing today is rather remarkable. This week I stumbled upon an amazing story about a 3 year old girl who was born with HIV and is not going 18 months of remission with zero treatment! I like to read these articles and continue to believe in those who are dedicated to changing the world and finding cures. Small baby steps is all we can truly ask for.
The researchers believe that through beginning the child’s treatment so early, ART was able to halt the formation of hard-to-treat viral reservoirs. These are defined as immune cells with “dormant” HIV that can reignite the infection within weeks of ceasing therapy.
